Famous German tuning company, Hartge, has presented the new ECU maps for the top of the range of BMW 3.0 inline six twin-turbo Diesel powered engines.
The power and torque increase after the ECU tuning, is from 313 HP to 362 HP and from 620NM to around 750 NM in case of the F13 640d coupe.
As presented in the video below the difference on a 80-180kmh is a 5 seconds improvement. (~15s stock and ~10s with Hartge map).
That is a massive improvement over the stock map. My old 6 years old tuned E60 535d 350 HP does the same range of acceleration with a 0.5-1 sec more but that is mostly because of the new astonishing 8 speed automatic gearbox found in the F10 535d and F13 640d.
The cost of the Harge ECU tuning map is 1650 euro. Think is too much?
Consider the performance level gains, but mostly the fact that unlinke ordinary bulk street tuning chips, Hartge is offering an insurance for the Engine and transmission. Just like my 535d, the average fuel consumption goes to an even lower value with aproximately 0.5 liters. The average consumption value of my 535d for the 2011 was a very good 8.6l/100 km, with mixt city and highways driving.
Below there are 2 interesting videos from youtube with the previous 5 series model 535d E60.
I think the E60 still looks quite fresh and modern even after the F10 model launch. For sure it is one with the “best bang for the buck” all round on the market.
First video shows a tuned LCI 535d fitted with a sport automatic DCT transmission, which is first dual clutch tranny on a 5 series model. M-packet and black paint color makes the entire package to look mean and aggresive. Enjoy some diesel powered smoke and donuts!
Second video shows a full exterior detailing job done on a pre-facelift E60 model. With a bit of work your old E60 5 series can look crisp and new.
A short drag race from 0 to 170km/h(~110mph) between a V8 powered Porsche Cayenne S AWD vs the lighter, but with also less power BMW E60 535d twin turbo diesel.
Despite the massive weight, the Cayenne goes faster in the first seconds because of the all-wheel-drive traction which helps to launch on the slippery road.
